Cuba welcomes 1 million foreign visitors to date in 2016

Xinhua, March 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

Cuba has received 1 million foreign tourists to date in 2016, up 14.6 percent from the same period last year, said the country's Ministry of Tourism on Saturday.

The Caribbean island witnessed an increase in the number of tourists from the United States, Germany, France, Italy and Argentina, the minister said in a statement.

It attributed the impressive figure to "the daily and efficient work by all employees and collaborators of the industry."

The statement said that companies in the country's tourism sector are "raising the quality of services and increasing hotel capacity" to better accommodate international visitors.

Tourism is Cuba's second main source of foreign revenues, after the export of professional services. In 2015, the country broke the previous record by receiving more than 3.5 million visitors. Endit
