Croatia support BiH efforts towards EU accession: President

Xinhua, March 9, 2016 Adjust font size:

Croatia firmly supports Bosnia and Herzegovina's (BiH) efforts towards their accession to the EU, President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic said on Tuesday after meeting with the three members of the Bosnian presidency.

"I sent everyone a clear and firm message about Croatia's and my support to BiH on the road towards EU membership," she said at a joint news conference with visiting Chairman of Presidency of BiH Dragan Covic.

BiH must "and wants to" start dealing with its internal issues very soon so that to continue its road to joining the EU, Covic said.

Also on Tuesday, Croatian Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Miro Kovac said the two countries would sign a European partnership agreement soon as a framework for Croatia's support to BiH's efforts to join the EU.

He held talks with his BiH's counterpart Igor Crnadak on Tuesday. Being a signatory to the Dayton Agreement, Croatia has a particular responsibility for BiH, which had applied for the status of membership candidate of EU in mid-Feb, Kovac said.

Members of the BiH Presidency, Dragan Covic, Bakir Izetbegovic and Mladen Ivanic arrived in Zagreb on Tuesday for a two-day official visit to Croatia.

They will meet Croatian Prime Minister Tihomir Oreskovic and Speaker of Parliament Zeljko Reiner on Wednesday. Enditem
