35 militants killed in fresh military operations in Afghanistan

Xinhua, March 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

A total of 35 militants have been killed within one day during military operations in Afghanistan, the country's Defense Ministry said on Tuesday.

"Within the past 24 hours, the Afghan National Army in close coordination with other Afghan security force members carried out several military and cleanup operations, killing 35 armed oppositions in countryside," the ministry said in a statement.

Some four militants were also wounded and seven others detained by the joint forces during the above raids, said the statement that provides daily operational updates.

"The joint forces also seized weapons and ammunition and defused several rounds of roadside bombs and landmines," the statement added.

The statement also confirmed the loss of 10 army personnel during clashes in the operations and as a result of separate attacks across the country over the same period.

In addition, the army personnel destroyed 23 militants' hideouts and recovered a weapons cache in restive Dand-e-Ghori and neighbouring Dand-e-Shahabuddin districts of northern Baghlan province on Monday, the army Corps 209 Shaheen said in a statement earlier on the day.

The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments. Enditem
