Xinhua, March 8, 2016 Adjust font size:

Nepalese parliament speaker Onsari Gharti Magar has said the new constitution has enough provisions on gender equality.

Issuing a press release on the occasion of the 106th International Women's Day on Tuesday, Magar said the preamble of the constitution has mentioned about the principle of inclusive representation for economic equity, prosperity and social justice of women by ending the prevailed gender discrimination.

Nepal promulgated its new constitution on September 20 last year, as per which Nepal elected the first woman speaker in the parliamentary history of the country.

Magar, the first female speaker and a former rebel fighter, said the whole year should be celebrated to pressurize for the implementation of rights guaranteed in new constitution.

In an exclusive interview with Xinhua on Friday, Magar said gender equity has just begun in Nepal.

She said the new constitution has guaranteed fundamental women rights and massive awareness is necessary to let the women from across the country know about their rights. Enditem
