Tokyo shares open lower on firmer yen

Tokyo shares opened the trading Tuesday slightly lower on the yen's advance against the U.S. dollar.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average inched down 48.01 points, or 0.28 percent, from Monday to 16,863.31.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 3.81 points, or 0.28 percent, to 1,358.09. Endit
