Tokyo stocks open down as investors opt to lock in gains

Tokyo stocks opened down Monday as investors opted early on to lock in gains after the market's recent winning streak.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 43.21 points, or 0.25 percent, from Friday to 16,971.57.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 8.00 points, or 0.58 percent, to 1,367.35.

Early sectors that lost ground comprised insurance, electric power and gas, and food-linked shares. Endit
