Less than half of Americans very confident about drinking water safety: poll

Xinhua, March 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

Less than half of Americans are very confident about the safety of their drinking water, according to a new poll.

Only 47 percent of Americans say they're extremely or very confident about the safety of their drinking water, while 33 percent say they are moderately confident, said the AP-Gfk survey, adding that another 18 percent are not very confident or not at all.

The poll also found out that Americans split over drinking water safety along racial lines, with 40 percent of African-Americans and 28 percent of Hispanics compared to 54 percent of whites saying that they are very confident about their water's safety.

Concerns about drinking water's safety had risen recently across the country after reports emerged that tap water was contaminated by lead in Flint, Michigan. Enditem
