Xinhua, March 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Two soldiers of the Turkish security forces were killed and four others wounded in the clashes with the militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in southeastern Turkey on Friday, private Dogan news agency reported.

The clashes between the Turkish troops and the PKK rebels broke out in the military operation in Idil town of the Sirnak province, leaving six Turkish soldiers wounded, according to the report.

The wounded soldiers were sent to Idil State Hospital for treatement by military helicopter, but later two wounded soldiers died, said the report.

Clashes between security forces and the PKK in the region continued for a while. Reinforcing security forces and ambulances and firefighters were sent after the attack.

Turkey's southeast region has seen the worst violence in two decades since a cease-fire between the government and the PKK collapsed in July 2015.

More than 260 members of Turkish security forces and thousands of PKK members have since been killed in confrontations inside Turkey and in northern Iraq.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
