Xinhua, March 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Two policemen were killed and 14 others injured early Friday by the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) car bombing and rocket attacks on a traffic control branch in Nusaybin district of Mardin province in southeastern Turkey, Dogan News Agency reported.

A traffic control branch located in Nusaybin of Mardin province was attacked by car bombing and rocket launchers from PKK militants at 6 a.m. local time Friday.

2 police in the branch were killed, while 14 people including police and residents in the building were injured.

Clashes between security forces and the PKK in the region continued for a while. Reinforcing security forces and ambulances and firefighters were sent after the attack.

Turkey's southeast region has seen the worst violence in two decades since a cease-fire between the government and the PKK collapsed in July 2015.

More than 260 members of Turkish security forces and thousands of PKK members have since been killed in confrontations inside Turkey and in northern Iraq.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
