Indian border guards discover 30-ft-long tunnel on Pakistan border

Xinhua, March 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indian border guards Friday claimed to have discovered a 30-feet-long tunnel on the border with Pakistan in the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir.

"An attempt has been made to dig a tunnel from Pakistani side into India, with an aim to push arms and terrorists into Jammu city," Rakesh Sharma, a top official of Border Security Force, said.

However, this is not the first time that a tunnel has been found on the India-Pakistan border. A 400-meter-long tunnel with ventilation pipes was discovered in 2012 and another in 2009.

"Their strategy was to keep the wild growth and to dig the tunnel, investigation is on, we have lodged a protest with the Pakistan Rangers," Sharma told the media.

India and Pakistan are arch-rivals and have fought three major wars over the disputed territory of Kashmir.

India claims that Pakistan helps infiltrate terrorists from across the border, a claim always denied by the neighboring country. Endit
