Xinhua, March 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tonga has recorded 36 confirmed cases of Zika virus infection, Radio Tonga News reported Friday.

Aside from the 36 confirmed cases, more than 2,000 suspected Zika cases have been recorded in the Pacific kingdom, including 17 pregnant women, said Dr. Saia Piukala, Tonga's minister of health.

Since the Zika outbreak declared on Feb. 1 in Tonga, more than 600 people in the kingdom have been admitted to hospital with relevant symptoms, Piukala told Radio Tonga News.

Symptoms of infection of the Zika virus, which is spread to humans through mosquito bites, include fever, joint pain, rash, conjunctivitis, headache and muscle pain.

A cleaning up campaign against mosquito breeding areas is continuing in Tonga. Enditem
