Poland to restore border controls in July 2016

Xinhua, March 4, 2016 Adjust font size:

Poland will restore temporary border controls between July 2 and 31 this year, Interior Minister Mariusz Blaszczak informed on Thursday.

The move is aimed at increasing security during the upcoming NATO summit and World Youth Day.

The decision was announced after a briefing held at a police training center in Legionowo, the main resort in charge of security during both events.

Blaszczak reminded that the temporary restoration of border controls was a measure used during the European Football Championship in 2012.

The NATO summit is to be held in Warsaw between July 8 and 9. Later the same month, the World Youth Day, a religious event, will be held in Cracow between July 26 and 31. The estimated number of participants is as many as 2.5 million people. Endit
