5.4-magnitude quake hits Morocco, no casualties so far

Morocco was hit by a 5.4-magnitude earthquake Thursday, causing panic among local residents.

The afflicted areas were Morocco's northeastern cities of Nador and Hoceima.

No casualties were reported so far, according to local media.

The quake occurred at 11:36 am local time according to the Moroccan National Institute of Geophysics's statement.

Nador and Hoceima have witnessed numerous quakes since January, with the strongest measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale on Jan. 25, injuring 15 people.

A previous major earthquake, also a 6.3-magnitude one, struck Hoceima in 2004, killing hundreds of people and leaving thousands homeless. Enditem
