China's Yang and Yi win golds at ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup

China collected two gold medals from the men's and women's 10m air rifle events on the opening day of the 2016 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup here on Thursday.

Yang Haoran set a junior final world record of 209.8 points to win the men's 10m air rifle, the first gold medal of the World Cup. His winning mark surpassed the previous record by 0.2 points he set at the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

Teammate Cao Yifei ranked the second with 207.6 points, Istvan Peni of Hungary, the youngest finalist at 19, finished in third with 186.9 points.

"My goal for the 2016 World Cup season is to improve my skills and to become stronger and stronger," said Yang, who was described as "phenomenon" on ISSF website.

Another world record holder Yi Siling of China also enjoyed victory in the women's 10m air rifle final by finishing with 207.7 points.

The 26-year-old Olympic champion hopes to defend her title in the coming Rio Olympics.

"Rio 2016 is in my sights," said Yi, "I will work through the season to improve my chances of victory."

The ISSF World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand will continue on Friday with the men's 50m pistol and women's 25m pistol. Endit
