Xinhua, March 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

Three members of the Turkish security forces and eight militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) were killed Wednesday in clashes in southeastern Turkey, authorities said Thursday.

The clashes took place when the Turkish security forces were staging the an operation in Dargecit, a town in Mardin province, the General Staff of the Turkish Armed Forces said in a statement.

Turkey's southeast region has seen the worst violence in two decades since a cease-fire between the government and the PKK collapsed in July 2015.

More than 260 members of Turkish security forces and thousands of PKK members have since been killed in confrontations inside Turkey and in northern Iraq.

The PKK is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey, the United States and the European Union. Endit
