China ties 1-1 with DPR Korea in Asian qualifier for Rio Olympics

Xinhua, March 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

With a penalty kicked in by young player Wang Shuang, China miraculously evened the score at the last minute and tied with DPR Korea 1-1 in Women's Olympic Football Tournament Asian qualifier here on Wednesday.

"This is why we love football." said Chinese head coach Bruno Bini.

DPR Korea firmly grasped the initiative as the Chinese girls failed to create any good chance for a goal.

In the 38th minute, Ra Un Sim netted a goal and made the score 1-0 for the Koreans.

Though Bini made a few adjustments after the break, the situation did not look up for the Chinese side. The DPR Korea team, hoping to widen the gap, made fierce attacks.

Wang drove the goal into the penalty area and was brought down two minutes into the injury time before she converted from the spot.

"The DPR Korea team kept the pressure," Bini admitted. "I admire the physical play of DPR Korea. But my team has more courage."

"I usually do not say such beautiful words. But today I would like to say some about Wang Shuang. She exhibited such courage at the penalty kick."

"The draw with DPR Korea team boosted our confidence. We will do better in the coming games." said Wang Shuang after the game.

With one victory and one draw, China holds the second place among the six teams competing for two spots in Rio Olympics. Endit
