NATO chief highlights support to Iraq

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday highlighted NATO's support to Iraq during an official visit in Baghdad, NATO said in a press release.

He said NATO will begin training Iraqi officers in Jordan, as part of NATO's Defense Capacity Building Package for Iraq.

Iraqi officers will receive training in key priority fields, including countering improvised explosive devices, military medicine and civil-military planning. NATO experts will also provide advice for Iraq's ongoing security sector reform efforts.

Stoltenberg highlighted NATO's efforts to step up support for the U.S.-led coalition's fight.

Last month, NATO defense ministers agreed to provide NATO AWACS surveillance planes in the fight against the Islamic State. Endit
