Tokyo shares open lower on yen's advance

Tokyo shares opened the trading Tuesday lower following declines in the overnight U.S. market, as well as on the yen's appreciation that always dragged down export-oriented issues.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 54.02 points, or 0.34 percent, from Monday to 15,972.74.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 5.63 points, or 0.43 percent, to 1,292.22. Endit
