France urges force task meeting as fresh attacks violate Syria's cease-fire deal

Xinhua, March 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

France on Monday asked a rapid meeting of task force charged with overseeing the cessation of hostilities in Syria after new attacks reportedly violated the cease fire accord, the country's foreign ministry said.

Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault asked for "a meeting without delay" of task force to verify whether rebels groups and Syrian regime and its allies respected the deal to halt hostilities which went into effect on Saturday, the Quai d'Orsay said.

Participating in the UN session of Human Rights Council, Ayrault said indications showed continued strikes against zones controlled by the opposition.

Last week, Syrian government and rebel groups have accepted a plan for a cessation of hostilities to begin on Feb. 27 as agreed upon by the United States and Russia. Enditem
