Russia's Foreign Minister Serguei Lavrov on Monday started a visit to Algeria to discuss critical regional issues, at the invitation of his Algerian counterpart, Ramtane Lamamra.
"We will discuss many issues, notably the situations on the Algerian borders, in North Africa and the Middle East," Lavrov told reporters upon his arrival in Algiers.
He noted this is his fourth visit to the Algeria in the past decade, saying he will discuss what he described as "very good" bilateral relations between Moscow and Algiers.
The ministers have met privately at the Foreign Ministry headquarters. The meeting was then extended to the members of the two delegations.
Lavrov's visit will address some regional and international issues including the situation in Libya and Syria, APS news agency quoted a statement of the Foreign Ministry as saying.
As a ground operation in neighboring Libya approaches, Algeria is urging the world to settle the Libyan crisis through peaceful means like dialogue rather than military intervention.
The fight against terrorism and the fluctuating oil prices at the international markets are also on the agenda of the Russian top diplomat's visit.
The two sides will "assess the cooperation in economic, technical, scientific and cultural fields, in the light of the 7th session of Algerian-Russian Joint Commission held in Moscow in July 2015," according to the Foreign Ministry.
Also, Lavrov will hold talks with Algerian top officials, including President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal. Endit
