Disintegration of Schengen won't resolve migration crisis: Slovak President

Xinhua, February 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

The possible disintegration of the Schengen area wouldn't resolve the causes of the refugee wave, Slovak President Andrej Kiska said after meeting his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda on Sunday.

"The disintegration of the Schengen area would have a devastating impact -- especially on Slovakia," said Kiska.

At the press conference Duda also made comments about migration and stressed the need for preserving the Schengen area.

"We want people to feel free in the EU," stressed the Polish president.

Both presidents also discussed infrastructure projects like an expressway linking Poprad in the Eastern Slovakia beneath the High Tatra Mountains and Krakow.

"We also discussed the possibility of creating a tunnel for the rail connection between Zakopane and Strbske Pleso. It needs to be noted that some tourist resorts in the High Tatras feature more than 50 percent Polish tourists," added Kiska. Endit
