Macao's former procecutors probed for suspected graft

Macao's former senior prosecutors are being investigated for suspected graft, said the special administrative region's anti-corruption body on Saturday.

Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) of Macao issued an announcement on its website saying that it has started a criminal investigation into a case involving former leadership of the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), who adjudicated 167 million patacas (about 20.88 million U.S. dollars) worth of MP's projects and services to some private companies for return of no less than 44 million patacas.

CCAC said the suspects and the involving companies' managers have allegedly committed offences of "fraud," "unlawful economic advantage," "power abuse" and "document forgery." Measures including custody, restriction from departure and suspension from public duties have been adopted against the suspects.

The anti-graft body refused to reveal names of the suspects, as the case is still under investigation. Endit
