Xinhua, February 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Guangzhou Evergrande won their second CFA Super Cup title with a dominant 2-0 victory over Jiangsu Suning here On Saturday at Chongqing Olympic Sports Center.

Ricardo Goulart, the AFC Foreign Player of the Year in 2015, scored twice in the first half to help Guangzhou to take the revenge against Jiangsu, who grabbed 2013 CFA Super Cup by beating Guangzhou 2-1.

"I am glad that we won another championship. We played the best first half in the last 20 matches tonight. It's a new start for us," said Guangzhou's coach Scolari.

Brazilian midfielder Alex Teixeria, who joined Jiangsu on a 50-million-euro deal from Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk, didn't start but replaces Jo at half-time. However, the 26-year-old was still far from his best form when he scored 22 goals from 15 appearances in 2015-16 Ukrainian Premier League season.

"I didn't pick Teixeria in the starting line-up, because he just arrived Chongqing in the early morning the day before yesterday. He needs more trainings and games to fit into the team," said Dan Petrescu, the coach of Jiangsu.

Guangzhou took the dominant position from the beginning of the match as Goulart was denied by Zhang Sipeng from close-range in the 9th minute. Four minutes later, the Brazilian striker volleyed home a shot on a headed pass from Huang Bowen to put Guangzhou ahead.

Former Atletico Madrid striker Jackson Martinez, who cost Guangzhou a fee of 42 million euros, had an opportunity to net the first goal in China in the 15th, but his shot was inches wide of the far post.

"I think Jackson did great in this match, he is a team player, and the goal will come soon," Scolari said.

Guangzhou doubled the lead in the 39th, Huang Bowen delivered a sumptuous cross from the right which was headed home at the far post by Goulart. Goulart almost scored a hat-trick in the second half, but his angled shot from the left of penalty area was saved by Zhang Sipeng in the 61st.

It could have been a heavier victory for Guangzhou, but Zheng Long's goal was ruled out for offside in the injury time. Endit
