German companies more cautious to recruit in Feb.: Ifo

Xinhua, February 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

German companies are increasingly skeptical about recruiting new employees, although they are continuing to create new jobs, the Ifo research institute reported on Friday.

According to the report, the Ifo employment barometer index fell to 108.0 points in February from 109.7 points last month.

The barometer in manufacturing remains at a weak level due to growing general uncertainty with regard to the economic situation in the sector. And the barometer in service sector saw its steepest decline in all of three years, the Munich-based think tank reported.

Meanwhile, companies in the construction sector are hardly looking to recruit any new employees. Only distributors are still recruiting new people in view of robust consumption.

Ifo is one of Europe's leading research institutes. Its business climate index is considered among the most important barometers for the German economy. Endit
