Santos could sign Rafael Van der Vaart

Xinhua, February 27, 2016 Adjust font size:

Holland international Rafael Van der Vaart could join Brazilian club Santos.

The 33-year-old, who has played for Hamburg, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, is reportedly not happy at Spanish side Real Betis and is looking for a new club, according to globoesporte.com.

Van Der Vaart, who has appeared at two World Cups, could be offered a performance-based contract by the Sao Paulo outfit, alongside a reported monthly salary of around 200,000 Brazilian reais (around 50,000 U.S. dollars).

It is thought that having such a high-profile player at the club could also help Santos with marketing strategies.

According to the Brazilian press, coach Dorival Junior approved the idea, and negotiations can now begin in earnest for the attacking playmaker.

In 2016 alone, Santos have already signed five players: forwards Maxi Rolon, Paulinho and Joel, as well as central defenders Luiz Felipe and Fabian Noguera. Endit
