Iraq's Shiite cleric warns PM's post "at stake"

A firebrand Shiite cleric on Friday warned Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi of losing his post if he fails to take decisive actions to root out corruption.
"Today (the position of) Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi is at stake, especially after the uprising of the Iraqi people," Moqtada al-Sadr said in his address to thousands of protesters in Tahrir Square in central Baghdad.
The protesters carried Iraqi flags and banners calling for decisive reforms.
Sadr's speech came about two weeks after he announced a proposal of reform plan, which included forming a technocrat government away from partisanship.
His plan came following similar demands from Iraqi political and religious elites after the failure of previous reform packages announced last summer by Mr. Abadi, which aimed at enabling his cabinet to confront the country's economic crisis due to the sharp decrease in oil prices in global markets.
