Kenyan police launch manhunt for 4 terror suspects

Xinhua, February 26, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Kenyan police on Friday circulated photos of four terror suspects who are on the run, calling on members of the public to provide information that could lead to their arrest.

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett said Mohammed Shide, Ahmed Uweys, Idriss Issack Ismail and Abdullahi Issak Diyat have been linked to several attacks in Nairobi as well as commuter bus and quarry attacks in Mandera County on the Somalia border in 2014.

"Arising from our investigations and with the cooperation of members of the public, we have identified four terror suspects who are on the run and whose photographs and details have been circulated," Boinnet told journalists in Nairobi.

"We call upon the members of the public to provide any information that would lead to their arrest," Boinett added.

Boinet said the suspects, who have a 20,000 U.S. dollar bounty each on their heads, are believed to be operating in the general area of Mandera and Wajir in northeastern Kenya and the Gedo region of southern Somalia.

"They may be in the company of other Al-Shabaab terrorists and may collaborate with Al-Shabaab sympathizers in the said region. The suspects are believed to be armed and dangerous," he said.

The police chief said security officers have made significant progress in counter terrorism measures, yet the Al-Shabaab threat is still alive in the country, adding that available information indicate that the Somali militants are still keen on attacking Kenya.

"We call upon all Kenyans to remain vigilant and to report anything suspicious to the police with immediate action," he said. Enditem
