Iceland sees increase of foreign visitor overnight stays in Jan.

Iceland saw a 19.8-percent increase year-on-year in the number of foreigners who stayed overnight in hotels in January, official figures showed on Friday.

According to statistics issued by Statistics Iceland, the number of people who paid for accommodations in Icelandic hotels rose to 193,176 in January, a 20.1-percent increase compared with January 2015.

Meanwhile, foreign tourists accounted for 87 percent of the people who stayed in Icelandic hotels in January. The number of Icelandic citizens staying overnight in hotels increased 22.1 percent over the same period.

Foreigners who stayed overnight in Iceland in January were mostly residents from the UK, the United States and Germany. Enditem
