Tokyo stocks close higher on oil prices' rise, hopes for G20 meeting

Tokyo stocks closed higher Friday as investor sentiment was boosted by a rise in oil prices and hopes for a successful outcome of the Group of 20 meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors in Shanghai.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 48.07 points, or 0.30 percent, from Thursday to close at 16,188.41.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 3.73 points, or 0.29 percent, to finish the week at 1,311.27.

Notable advancers comprised retail, electric power and gas, and food-linked shares, with the turnover for the day totaling 2,111.7 billion yen (18.71 billion U.S. dollars). Endit
