Three alleged militants have been arrested in Bangladesh's northwestern region over killing of a Hindu priest, a police official said Friday.
The detainees are said to be members of the banned Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Criminals slit the throat of Hindu priest Jogeswar Dasadhikari, 50, at a temple on Feb. 21 at Panchagarh district, some 443 km away of capital Dhaka.
"We've arrested three JMB men who directly took part in the murder," said a Panchgarh district police official on Friday morning.
One of the detainees is a presumed mastermind behind the murder, said the official who did not like to be named.
He said two firearms have been seized from the possession of the detainees.
JMB, campaigning for establishment of Islamic rule in Bangladesh, carried out a series of bombings in 63 out of the country's 64 districts, including the capital of Dhaka on Aug. 17, 2005, leaving two people dead and 150 others injured.
Hundreds of JMB leaders and activists were rounded up while six top leaders of the group, including Shaikh Abdur Rahman, were hanged in 2007. Endit
