Xinhua, February 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

The first two cases of the Zika virus have been registered in the Czech Republic, Health Minister Svatopluk Nemecek confirmed on Thursday.

The two persons, a 58-year-old man and a 49-year-old woman, both tourists who returned from the risky areas two weeks ago. The man stayed in Martinique and the woman stayed in the Dominican Republic, said Nemecek.

He said that the woman is not pregnant, so there is no danger to the foetus. Both of the two persons had flu-like symptoms and rash, and they were treated on an outpatient basis. But this does not mean the spread of infection in the country, said Nemecek.

The two cases of Zika virus were investigated and confirmed by laboratory test. However, due to good clinical condition of the patients, outpatient treatment was decided, said Nemecek.

The Czech government has already decided that it will not take any special precautions in connection with the possible occurrence of the virus in the country. Endit
