The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race will come to Qingdao, east China, from March 10 to March 20, and a series of sports and cultural activities will be held, said officials of local sports bureau on Thursday.
Twelve Clipper yachts are expected to arrive in Qingdao from March 10 to March 13, and local organizing committee will have a Chinese-featured welcome ceremony for each yacht, said Liu Min, an official of local sports bureau.
Clipper sailors will have a football match against local sports journalists, and the organizing committee will collect photos and articles about Qingdao from clippers sailors, Liu Min said.
Sailors will also communicate with local citizens and students, Liu added.
All 12 Clipper yachts will cruise along Qingdao's coastline and citizens could enjoy a spectacular scene on the shore.
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, held every two years, is the largest amateur yacht race in the world. Starting from London on August 30 last year, the 2015-16 Clipper Race consists of 14 races on eight legs with a total route length of about 40,000 nautical miles.
As the venue of the sailing events of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Qingdao has organized five leg events in a row since 2006. Endit
