Tokyo shares end higher on weaker yen, rising oil prices

Tokyo shares ended the trading Thursday sharply higher as sentiment was warmed by the yen's retreat and rebounding oil prices.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average jumped 224.55 points, or 1.41 percent, higher from Wednesday at 16,140.34.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was up 23.01 points, or 1.79 percent, to 1,307.54.

Gainers were led by construction, financial, electric power and gas issues.

The day's turnover was about 2,388.5 billion yen (about 21.29 billion U.S. dollars). Enditem
