Nepalese PM terms his official visit to India as highly successful

Xinhua, February 25, 2016 Adjust font size:

Nepalese Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has termed his official visit to India as highly successful in improving the bilateral ties by clearing misunderstandings.

Addressing reporters upon his arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport here on Wednesday night, the prime minister said Indo-Nepal ties that had soured in the last few months have restored through the talks with the Indian leaders.

The two neighbors have witnessed soured relations since September last year following the border-based agitation of Madhes-based parties in Nepal against a new constitution in Nepal and an unofficial Indian blockade.

During the official six-day visit, Oli had met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian President Pranab Mukherjee, ministers and leaders of various parties along with the business community.

Though Nepal hadn't prepared any specific agendas or proposals for the official visit, the two neighbors signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) on various issues ranging from utilization of reconstruction fund to road improvement project and rail network.

However, no joint communique was issued at the end of the visit.

This was the first foreign visit of Oli after his appointment as prime minister in October last year.

Earlier in an interview with Xinhua, Oli has said that he would visit China in the third week of March. Endit
