The Argentinian Senate on Tuesday approved the appointment of Diego Guelar as ambassador to China, who is expected to take office in Beijing next month.
Guelar, 65, a lawyer, has served as a national deputy, and ambassador to the United States, Brazil and the European Union.
He taught at a university and served as secretary of international affairs for the conservative Republican Proposal (PRO) party when President Mauricio Macri tapped him to serve as the ambassador to China.
During a Senate hearing last Tuesday as part of the confirmation process, Guelar underscored the two countries' "comprehensive strategic partnership" and ongoing bilateral projects, including a push to modernize Argentina's aging Belgrano Cargas cargo railway, as well as mining and energy cooperation.
The upper house also confirmed other 11 envoys, including ambassadors to the United States, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and other countries. Endi
