Tokyo shares open lower on firmer yen, weak oil prices

Tokyo shares opened the trading Wednesday lower as sentiment here was weighed down by the yen's appreciation and the oil prices' retreat.

At 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average lost 282.92 points, or 1.76 percent, from Tuesday to 15,769.13.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange was down 21.62 points, or 1.67 percent, to 1,269.55. Endit
