Rocket attack on gendarmerie post in western Turkey, no casualties

Xinhua, February 24, 2016 Adjust font size:

A gendarmerie post in Turkey's western city of Izmir was targeted in a rocket attack on Tuesday, though no casualties have been reported, the Dogan news agency said.

"The rocket was targeting the gendarmerie but missed the target and hit a nearby building," Izmir Governor Mustafa Toprak was quoted as saying on the scene, who added that no casualties were reported.

He said the attack, in which rocket-propelled grenades were used, was carried out from one kilometer away from the gendarmerie post and a large-scale investigation had been launched.

A blackout was applied to the gendarmerie post and the nearby buildings, he said.

Turkish security forces have been put on high alert after a bombing attack targeted military personnel in Ankara, the national capital, on Feb. 17, in which 29 people were killed. Endit
