Kazakhstan's Olympic weightlifting champions on IWF's list

Xinhua, February 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

Kazakhstan's Olympic champion Ilya Ilyin is on the list of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF), which requires athletes to provide information about their location during the entire 2016.

Ilyin, Svetlana Podobedova, Zulfiya Chinshanlo, Maya Maneza are among the 17 weightlifters from Kazakhstan to provide information that is necessary for taking doping tests of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) during their non-contest season.

The list of IWF includes 297 weightlifters around the world.

Kazakhstan weightlifters Zhasulan Kydyrbaev, Almas Uteshev and Ermek Omirtay are temporarily banned for doping during the World Weightlifting Championships last November in Houston.

The Kazakstan National Olympic Committee said that an independent anti-doping commission has been established in the capital city of Kazakhstan, Astana. The commission will evaluate the performance of the whole anti-doping system in Kazakhstan in order to prevent doping scandals and to protect honest athletes in the country.

Composed of representatives from various institutions, non-governmental organisations and sports functionaries, the commission will focus its work on the review of the current activities of the national anti-doping centre and anti-doping laboratory located in Almaty, and review the current mechanisms of interaction with international anticipants of the anti-doping movement.

Four female and six male athletes will represent Kazakhstan for the weightlifting competition in the Rio Olympic Games. Endit
