Croatian, Slovenian interior ministers discuss migrant crisis

Xinhua, February 23, 2016 Adjust font size:

It was necessary to find joint and comprehensive measures and to develop possible cooperation between countries on the refugee route, interior ministers of Croatia and Slovenia said on Monday.

Croatian Interior Minister Vlaho Orepic said after meeting with his Slovenian counterpart Vesna Gjerkes Znidar in Ljubljana that when Germany and Austria stopped taking in refugees and migrants, it would be necessary to separate reception and transit.

Until then it was necessary to develop solutions to deal with the problems from the Macedonian border to the final destinations, he said, adding the main problem was to provide transportation and accommodation migrants after they were profiled in Macedonia.

Gjerkes Znidar said Orepic and she agreed cooperation on the issue and highlighted the efforts to establish effective control on the Macedonian-Greek border.

"We can't solve the migrant crisis with unilateral measures. It's necessary to seek joint and comprehensive solutions," she said.

She said that Slovenia, in line with the European Council's latest recommendations, would consistently enforce Schengen rules on its border with Croatia.

Orepic assured her that Croatia and Slovenia would exchange information on the transit of migrants regularly and in a timely manner, she added. Enditem
