Five Philippine presidential candidates presented Sunday their platforms once elected as president in the May elections in the first ever debate aired live over a television station.

The Commission on Elections, in partnership with GMA Television Network and broadsheet Philippine Daily Inquirer, organized the debate, the first since 1992, held in southern Philippine City of Cagayan de Oro.

Present in the debate were Vice President Jejomar Binay, Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, Senator Grace Poe, and Manuel Roxas II.

Among the issues discussed were their track record, poverty and development, Mindanao issues and governance.

The debate lasted for two hours. Two more presidential debates have been lined up to be held in Visayas and Luzon before the May 9 elections. Endit
