Modi holds talks with visiting Nepalese PM

Xinhua, February 20, 2016 Adjust font size:

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday held comprehensive talks with visiting Nepalese Prime Minister Sharma Oli in the national capital.

"Stepping forward into the future. PM @narendramodi welcomes PM KP Sharma Oli at Hyderabad House," Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

Sources said the two prime ministers discussed various issues of mutual interest, including the economic and political situation in Nepal.

The Nepalese premier, who arrived in India Friday on a six-day visit to revive bilateral ties, met Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, the sources said.

During their meeting, Oli told Swaraj that Nepal "is and will remain a reliable friend of India," the sources said.

The Indian external affairs minister replied: "India wants to move forward in the relationship which is not man-made but entirely natural and civilizational."

Bilateral relations between India and Nepal had soured in recent months due to the agitation by the Madhesi community in southern Nepal opposing a new constitution, saying it failed to address their concerns. Endit
