The Indian Navy said that Exercise IBSAMAR is being held in Indian waters for the first time and the earlier four editions were held off the coast of South Africa.

"The primary aim of this exercise is to increase interoperability amongst the three navies as well as develop common understanding and procedures for maritime security operations," the Navy said.

The scope of the exercise includes wide-ranging professional interactions during the harbour phase and a diverse range of operational activities at sea during the sea phase, it added.

The exercises, which primarily emphasises on anti-submarine warfare, surface firings, air defenses, flying operations, search and rescue, and tactical procedures, will end on Feb. 29. Endit
