14 suspects detained over Ankara bomb attack

Xinhua, February 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

Fourteen suspects have been detained over Wednesday's car bombing in Ankara that killed at least 28 people and wounded 61 others, Interior Minister Efkan Ala said Thursday.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a press conference that the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) and the People's Protection Units (YPG) in Syria are behind the attack that targeted Turkish military in central Ankara.

"Although the PKK and the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) are denying it, the information from the interior ministry and intelligence service show that they are behind (the attack)," Erdogan said.

The YPG is the armed wing of the PYD, which Ankara considers as affiliated to the PKK.

Turkish military attacked PKK positions late Wednesday in northern Iraq shortly after the car bombing that targeted military personnel shuttles in downtown Ankara. Endit
