Council of Europe top official condemns Ankara bombing

Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) President Pedro Agramunt on Thursday condemned the deadly bomb attack in the Turkish capital Ankara.

Agramunt expressed the Assembly's "deepest sympathies" to the people of Turkey and the Turkish authorities in letters to the speaker of the Turkish parliament and to the country's Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.

"Terrorism undermines the very foundations of our democratic societies," Agramunt wrote, noting "We must resolutely combat this scourge, on the basis of the values and principles of human rights, democracy and the rule of law."

Twenty-eight people were killed and 61 injured when a vehicle packed with explosives was detonated as military buses were passing by on Wednesday. Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said Thursday that 26 of the dead were soldiers.

Agramunt took over as PACE president in January this year. Endit
