China publicizes latest graft cases

The top discipline watchdog of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Thursday named officials involved in 125 breaches of Party rules.

The violations published on the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) website, included accepting bribes, embezzlement of public funds and charging unauthorized fees.

Wang Fei, former officer of the Beijing Traffic Management Bureau, was sentenced to 14 years in jail, for helping others illegally obtain 29 vehicle license plates in exchange for 3.82 million yuan (585,000 U.S. dollars). Beijing has license plate quota for vehicles and a lottery system.

Gao Chunrong, former deputy director of the finance office of Yangshan township in Shandong Province, embezzled 3.8 million yuan of public funds for personal investment.

Other wrongdoers received punishments ranging from warnings, demotion, expulsion from the CPC to removal from office. Cases involving criminal liability have been transferred to judicial organs.

The cases came from all parts of the country, with north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region leading the way with 17 violations, the highest for a single region. Endi
