After left-wing parties' entry, Hollande urges gov't coherence to face challenges

Xinhua, February 18, 2016 Adjust font size:

French President Francois Hollande asked his new executive team to work together despite their respective political leanings, a government official said on Wednesday.

"France is in an extremely serious international context. To face challenges, we need a coherent government," Stephane Le Foll, the government's spokesman quoted Hollande as saying.

At the first meeting of the reshuffled government, Hollande said "everyone has political tendency, but now in the government, everyone has to address the French with the aim to act collectively."

Last week, the Socialist Party leader changed his cabinet by handing portfolios to the Greens and the center-left Radical Left Party.

In a recent TV appearance, Hollande stressed "this government must act, reform, move forward."

The cabinet's main three priorities are to reverse a rising unemployment trend, currently at 10.2 percent, ensure security at home after the Nov. 13 deadly terrorist assaults, and promote energy transition for a cleaner environment, Le Foll added. Endit
