Iran in talks with France for construction of PVM plant

Xinhua, February 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

Iran discussed with the French Air Liquide company the prospects of building a Propylene via Methanol (PVM) plant in the country, said an Iranian petrochemical official Monday.

PVM technology is used to convert methanol into propylene. Over the past two years, Iran focused on acquiring PVM technology.

It launched the first PVM pilot plant in Mahshahr city in early 2015, producing 120,000 tons of propylene from methanol.

Esmaeil Qambari, managing director of Iran's Petrochemical Research and Technology Company, was quoted as saying by Iran's Petro Energy Information Network (SHANA) that Iran is currently contacting numerous companies in Germany, France, Norway and Japan in order to purchase petrochemical technology.

Furthermore Qambari added, "we discussed with Air Liquide the potential for a scientific partnership to develop a 500,000-ton PVM plant in Iran."

Iran is interested in purchasing foreign technology through its transfer followed by its localization, he said. Enditem
