Xinhua, February 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

A former Somali defence minister was killed Monday in a car explosion in Mogadishu, police have confirmed.

Mohamed Hussein, a police officer at the scene confirmed to Xinhua that Muhidin Mohamad Haji Ibrahim, who served under the Transitional Federal Government in 2008, was killed when an explosive device fitted in his car exploded, with no reports of any other casualties.

"I can confirm that the deceased died on the spot when the car exploded at a busy junction in KM 4," said Hussein.

Several lawmakers and ministers have been killed in the past in similar incidents, for which Somali militant group Al-Shabaab usually claimed responsibility. Enditem
