Villagers kill rogue lion in Namibia

Xinhua, February 15, 2016 Adjust font size:

A lion that killed a bull, a dog and left a cow wounded at a village in Namibia's northwest region of Kunene, about 590 kilometers from Namibian capital Windhoek, was gunned down by angry villagers.

The owner of the livestock who hunted down the lion and killed it on Friday told Xinhua on Sunday that the animal had been wrecking havoc in the area the whole of last week.

He also said the police and wild parks officials had failed to locate the lion resulting in the villagers hunting it down.

According to the villager, the lion had killed a Brahman bull and wounded a cow.

The last stroke, the villager said, was when the lion killed a dog.

A police officer who spoke on condition of anonymity said they were alerted to the lion's presence on Feb. 9.

The lion population is estimated to be anything between 600 and 800 in southern African country. Enditem
