Algeria, Tunisia stress support for Libya political process

Algeria and Tunisia on Sunday stressed their support for the political process in war-torn Libya and rejection of any military intervention to settle the crisis in the North African country.

"We urge the Libyan rivals to get together to form a national reconciliation government based in Tripoli to deal with key issues, including the fight against terrorism," visiting Tunisia Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui told reporters following his meeting with his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamra.

Also, Algeria's top diplomat said his country "does not believe that a military action and bringing more arms to Libya would lead to achieve calm there."

"We are keen as neighbors of Libya to be significant part of the solution rather than a part of the problem," he said.

Some Western nations have recently called for initiating a military intervention in Libya to chase out militants of the Islamic State.

Libya has been suffering a security vacuum with increased dominance of extremists since the fall and death of leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.

The country has been plagued with escalating violence and political division.

In late 2015, The Libyan rivals reached a peace accord following UN-sponsored talks held in the Moroccan resort of Skhirat. Endit
